  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strawberry puree (fresh strawberries blended)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for frosting)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 9-inch round pans.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Add eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Mix until combined.
  3. Divide batter into three bowls. Stir strawberry puree into one bowl, additional cocoa powder into another for extra chocolate flavor; leave the third as vanilla.
  4. Pour each batter into its respective pan and bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  5. Allow cakes to cool in pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
  6. For frosting, whip heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and whip until stiff peaks form.
  7. Assemble by stacking layers with frosting in between each layer and cover the top and sides with remaining frosting. Decorate with fresh strawberries.
