  • 1 package phyllo dough (16 oz), thawed
  • 2 cups chopped walnuts and pistachios (1 cup each)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup quality honey
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with melted butter.
  2. Layer about 8 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  3. In a bowl, mix chopped nuts, sugar, cinnamon, and salt; sprinkle half over the phyllo layers.
  4. Add another 8 sheets of phyllo on top of the nut mixture, brushing each with butter. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  5. Cut diamond shapes into the top layer before baking for about 45-50 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. For the syrup, combine sugar, water, and honey in a saucepan; bring to a boil then simmer for 10 minutes.
  7. Pour hot syrup over the baked baklava; let it sit for several hours or overnight to absorb flavors.
