  • 9 lasagna noodles (oven-ready)
  • 1 lb ground beef or sausage (lean)
  • 15 oz fresh mozzarella cheese (sliced)
  • 15 oz ricotta cheese (whole milk)
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • ½ cup fresh basil leaves (chopped)
  • 1 egg
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef or sausage for about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in marinara sauce and half of the chopped basil; simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and remaining basil until smooth.
  5. In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella slices; repeat until all ingredients are used.
  6. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Let cool for 10-15 minutes before slicing.
